Working Harbor Committee's Great North River Tugboat Race

Today I got to watch the Working Harbor Committee's excellent Great North River Tugboat Race from the fireboat Harvey.  It was very cool being on the river with all these amazing boats; special thanks to Will of Tugster and Mitch of Newtown Pentacle.  Below are some highlight photos; I have hundreds more here.

When the race started, the speedy ol' Harvey used all four of its engines to chase the tugs down, and the power of these boats was amazing... 

The mighty Resolute (red boat in the distance in the picture below) was the eventual winner...

 

But the Debora Miller had a special cargo, an entry in the best mascot contest, look carefully between the grates on the upper deck:

After the race down river, there were contests between individual boats: 

After the on-water races were competitions on land, like a spinach eating contest.
