2025 Show Control Geekout Wrapup

On June 12, the Show Control Geekout case studies during Infocomm returned after a too long hiatus!  This was the 14th show control case study presentation that Jim Janninck (Timberspring) and I have organized (writeups on past events here), starting way back in 2002. And this was the best attended yet, with over 100 registrations and a full house! Alcorn McBride once generously hosted us, this time opening up their “church” space for presentations, and providing great BBQ, and even drinks in their tiki bar!

Presentations were offered in order of submission. Click on any photo to enlarge.

Quantum Wellness Spa

Marc Rosenthal of Personal Creations, Inc kicked off the proceedings with a fun talk describing the show control system he created for Quantum Spa in Los Angeles.

Fitting a Nonlinear Show Into a Timeline Hole: Control System Design for The Twenty-Sided Tavern

Next up was Chet Miller of 4Wall Entertainment, who did a fascinating presentation on the systems they designed for the Dungeons and Dragons themed off Broadway production of The Twenty Sided Tavern.

Reflecting on IlluminiNations: Reflections of Earth

Next up David Hynds, a 30-year Disney veteran in theme park show technology, now with techStrategy consulting LLC with a great presentation where he explored design strategies and technical challenges in translating the creative vision for a show into a park-wide control system for a legacy theme park, mixing historical developments with timeless strategies.

Sphere VCS

Closing things out for this year was Alan Anderson, Mitch Schuh and Paul Bristol of Smart Monkeys, who—in partnership with Christ Conte from Electrosonic—gave a high level look at one of the most ambitious control system deployments ever developed by the company: the Las Vegas Sphere Venue Control System.

Afterwards, the group hung out in the reception which was so generously provided by Alcorn McBride!

Thanks again to Loren Barrows, CEO of Alcorn, for being such a generous host! She has offered us space again in two years when Infocomm returns to Orlando. But in the meantime, Jim and I are thinking of doing something next year in Las Vegas—if you know someone who would like to host a bunch of geeks talking show control, please get in touch.
